Training Classes

Our facility has a classroom for training in concealed carry, basic personal defense and advanced personal defense classes. Customers interested in training will have an option of a 7 hour class or 3 and 4 hour elective courses to work on specific disciplines. Our motto is "Training begins at the door" which means our experienced gun counter sales personnel and range safety officers will ensure your shooting needs are fulfilled in a safe environment. Privates lessons are also offered.

These 90 minute blocks of instructions are ideal for the person who carries a concealed handgun and desires to develop, maintain or enhance their handgun skills. WISR instructors will guide students through each module consisting of dry fire and live fire exercises. This comprehensive training program will train students in all elements needed to survive a deadly force encounter. All skill levels are welcome. Tuition $30.

On Mondays & Fridays beginning on May 22nd we will provide a weekly Handgun Clinic for shooters to develop and maintain skills. Cost is $20.00 for nonmembers and $10.00 for members. If you don't have a handgun there is a $15.00 rental fee. Topics will change weekly.

This one day course is designed to educate civilians in personal defense tactics and techniques in, around, under and over vehicles. Topics will include: terminal ballistics, using the vehicle as cover or concealment, shooting through glass, one handed shooting, firing positions inside a vehicle and exit strategies. Additional topics will include: shoot, move and communicate techniques with a partner, multiple firing positions and safe weapon management skills.

Students have the choice to use a handgun in this class or handgun/rifle combination. Handgun tactics will be utilized inside the vehicle. Students bringing a rifle will use rifle tactics outside the vehicle after accessing their rifle from rear seat or trunk.

Handgun with holster (no cross draw, shoulder, appendix holsters)

400 handgun rounds minimum

WISR’s Introduction to Modern Handguns course (4 hours) is designed to educate students in safe gun handling skills & use of handguns best suited for personal protection or home defense. This comprehensive course will provide essential knowledge to new gun owners or provide information to aid in your selection of a new handgun. Topics will include handgun safety, cycle of operation, vocabulary, caliber selection & accessories. Our experienced instructors will also cover handgun management, shooting fundamentals (stance, grip, sight picture, trigger press and breathing), effects of stress and myths vs. reality. Instructors will identify your handgun needs and suggest the best handgun for you. There is also 50 rounds of live fire with our instructor in the range at the end of the class.

WISR’s experienced instructors will guide students through laws pertaining to carrying a concealed handgun and home defense considerations. Topics will include use of force laws, handgun safety techniques, stress shooting fundamentals, weapon management, effects of stress and survival mindset. After practical exercises in the classroom students will be provided the opportunity to develop skills on accuracy, trigger management and recoil management during a 200 round course of fire on the range. This course is ideal for new shooters or experienced shooters that want to revisit the basics. This course is 7 hours. Ammo can be purchased separately.

Practical Handgun 02 is designed to enhance skills taught in PH01 and develop additional skills that are necessary for personal safety in and out of the home. This course emphasizes safety, fundamentals, and tactics while engaging various targets from stationary positions behind cover and shooting on the move. WISR Training Concepts Instructors will increase your speed and accuracy while utilizing proper tactics. Topics will include: unconventional firing positions, barricade shooting, shooting on the move, multiple targets and tactics.

Practical Rifle 01 is an entry level course for new shooters or experienced shooters seeking to enhance their skills and train for defensive applications. This course is designed for the AR platform or equivalent system. Topics will include: safe use of the rifle, shooting fundamentals, accuracy, multiple firing positions, malfunctions clearing and ready positions. As in all WISR training courses instructors will discuss weapon management, tactics and mindset. This course will provide you with the knowledge, training techniques and confidence to master these skills. Tuition: $165 Equipment: - AR or equivalent rifle w/tactical sling - 3 magazines - 450 rounds for rifle - Magazine pouches - Handgun w/holster (no cross draw or shoulder holsters) - 50 handgun rounds - Hearing and eye protection - Lunch/fluids - Gloves & Knee pads optional

Practical Rifle 02 (PR02) is the next evolution in our skill development program for building your rifle skills. This course is held at the Scarborough Fish & Game Club and covers; unconventional shooting positions, barricade shooting and shooting on the move. Instructors will continue to work fundamentals learned in Practical Rifle 01 and as always discuss tactics and techniques.

This class is located at Scarborough Fish & Game Club

This course is open to all Law Enforcement Officers, Active and Reserve Military Servicemen & Women. The LE Tactical Rifle 01 course will introduce advanced rifle skills to officers and prepare them for worst case scenario situations. This is a fast paced intensive course that will push officers out of their comfort zones. This course will emphasize proper tactics, shooting on the move when cover is not available and proper use of cover while deploying your rifle with two hands, gun hand only and support hand only.

Equipment Needed:

Handgun w/holster & mag pouches. Recommend not wearing duty belts, they will get scuffed up during ground drills.

This course is two hours and is held periodically throughout the year, please check for dates. Over-stretched law enforcement budgets and troubling economic times typically result in an increase in violent crime.  Despite the increasing odds of crime against an individual, a majority of the public spend inadequate time, if any, on planning for a personal assault.   The SABRE CSAP classes provide a critical personal safety plan. At the class, attendees learn how to:

Identify and avoid dangerous encounters

Discourage an attacker

Use verbal commands & simple self-defense techniques

Effectively and responsibly deploy SABRE Pepper Spray

Escape an attacker

SABRE pepper sprays have been “Making Grown Men Cry Since 1975” and are used by law enforcement agencies worldwide including (local and state agencies. US Marshals, Customs & Border Protection and NYPD) Students will become proficient and accurate with SABRE pepper spray by deploying water filled practice sprays at static target.

 

Firearms Hunter Safety Course
The Home Study Course consists of about 9 hours of classroom instruction broken up into a 3 hour introduction followed by one day of classroom and activities. Students are required to complete a workbook or chapter reviews from an online course, both of which complement the student manual. Students must demonstrate to the instructor that they can safely handle a firearm, participate in activities, bring in a survival kit with appropriate contents and pass a 50 question test with a grade of at least 70%.
Courses are taught by trained, certified volunteer instructors according to statewide standards. Courses cover the following topics: proper firearms handling (rifle and shotgun), survival/first aid, hunter responsibility, map and compass and landowner relations.
Tuition: $15

The Online Course requires that students complete the knowledge portion of the course online and attend a skills and exam day which is about 7 hours.  Students complete quizzes and exam as they do the online course and are provided with a voucher to attend the skills and exam day upon completion of the online exam. In the skills and exam session students must demonstrate to the instructor that they can safely handle a firearm, participate in activities, bring in a survival kit with appropriate contents and pass a 50 question test with a grade of at least 70%. Students must complete the online course and provide voucher number to register for the Skills and Exam Day. Students must also bring the voucher to the first class. One of the responsibilities of owning a firearm is the proper care and maintenance of your firearm .This 2 hour long class is designed to educate the gun owner in cleaning techniques to inspect and clean their firearm. Instructors will cover safety procedures, disassembly, inspection, cleaning, reassembly and lubrication. Additional information on cleaning tools and materials will be covered. Visit our retail store and our experienced staff can assist you in selecting cleaning tools and supplies.
